Resources

Useful tools and information to optimize your logistics and international trade decisions.

Ocean Freight FCL

FCL (Full Container Load) is the exclusive use of an entire container for a single shipment. It is the most economical option per unit when volume exceeds 15–20 CBM. Standard containers are 20' (≈ 25 CBM) and 40' (≈ 65 CBM).

  • ✔ Higher security — no shared space
  • ✔ Shorter transit time
  • ✔ Ideal for large-volume cargo

Ocean Freight LCL

LCL (Less than Container Load) or consolidated cargo allows multiple shipments from different clients to share the same container. Ideal for cargo under 15 CBM — you only pay for the space your goods occupy.

  • ✔ Cost proportional to volume
  • ✔ Flexible shipment frequency
  • ✔ Ideal for SMEs with smaller volumes

Air Freight

Air freight is the fastest mode, used for high-value, urgent or perishable cargo. Cost is calculated on chargeable weight (greater of gross weight or volumetric weight, at 1 CBM = 167 kg).

  • ✔ Delivery in days vs. weeks
  • ✔ High security, low damage risk
  • ✔ Global destination coverage

Ground Freight FTL / LTL

FTL (Full Truck Load) uses an entire truck for a single shipment, while LTL (Less than Truck Load) consolidates loads from different clients. Ideal for Central American routes and door-to-door connections.

  • ✔ Ideal for Central America and Mexico
  • ✔ Door-to-door delivery
  • ✔ Flexibility across cargo types

Special Equipment

For oversized or special-condition cargo we use adapted containers: Open Top (no roof for tall cargo), Flat Rack (no walls for machinery), Reefer (refrigerated) and Isotank (bulk liquids).

  • ✔ Open Top: exceptionally tall cargo
  • ✔ Flat Rack: machinery and oversized loads
  • ✔ Reefer / Isotank: temperature and liquids

International Courier

Courier is the fastest option for documents, samples and small parcels. Door-to-door with real-time tracking and delivery in 1 to 5 business days depending on destination.

  • ✔ Real-time tracking
  • ✔ Express delivery worldwide
  • ✔ Ideal for samples and documents

Incoterms® 2020 (International Commercial Terms) are terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) that define the responsibilities of buyers and sellers in international trade transactions. They determine who bears the costs of transport, insurance and risk of goods at each stage of the journey.

For any mode of transport
EXW
Ex Works

The seller makes the goods available at their premises. The buyer bears all costs and risks from that point, including loading, transport and export.

FCA
Free Carrier

The seller delivers the goods to the carrier designated by the buyer at the agreed place. Risk passes to the buyer at that point of delivery.

CPT
Carriage Paid To

The seller pays freight to the agreed destination, but risk transfers to the buyer when the goods are handed to the first carrier at origin.

CIP
Carriage and Insurance Paid To

Similar to CPT, but the seller also contracts broad-coverage cargo insurance in favor of the buyer for the entire main transit.

DAP
Delivered At Place

The seller delivers the goods at the agreed destination, ready for unloading. Import duties and taxes are borne by the buyer.

DPU
Delivered at Place Unloaded

The seller delivers the goods unloaded at the destination point. It's the only incoterm that requires the seller to handle unloading at destination.

DDP
Delivered Duty Paid

The seller bears all costs and risks until delivering goods at destination, including import duties and taxes. Maximum responsibility for the seller.

Sea and inland waterway transport only
FAS
Free Alongside Ship

The seller delivers the goods alongside the vessel at the port of shipment. From that point the buyer assumes all costs and risks.

FOB
Free On Board

The seller delivers the goods on board the vessel at the port of origin. One of the most widely used incoterms in international ocean trade.

CFR
Cost and Freight

The seller pays ocean freight to the destination port, but risk transfers to the buyer once the cargo is on board at the origin port.

CIF
Cost, Insurance and Freight

The seller pays cost, insurance and ocean freight to the destination port. Risk transfers at origin (like CFR), but the seller contracts minimum insurance. Widely used in international trade.

* Based on Incoterms® 2020 by the International Chamber of Commerce. Always consult with your customs broker for the correct application to your operation.

Calculate the chargeable weight of your cargo. The chargeable weight is the greater of gross weight or volumetric weight — and is what freight is billed on.

What we get asked most

We answer the most common questions about our freight, import and export services.

How long does an ocean shipment from China to Costa Rica take?

The average transit time from China's main ports (Shanghai, Shenzhen, Ningbo) to Costa Rica is 30 to 40 days on regular ocean service. Times may vary depending on the ocean line, season (peak or off-peak), and whether cargo is FCL (full container) or LCL (consolidated).

What's the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (Full Container Load): exclusive use of an entire container for a single shipment. It's the most economical option per unit when volume exceeds 15–20 CBM.

LCL (Less than Container Load): consolidated service where your cargo shares a container with other clients' goods. You pay only for the space your cargo occupies. Ideal for volumes under 15 CBM.

What documents do I need to import into Costa Rica?

The basic documents for an import are:

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Bill of Lading (B/L) for ocean or Airway Bill (AWB) for air
  • Certificate of Origin (if applicable for tariff preferences)
  • Specific permits depending on the cargo (sanitary, phytosanitary, etc.)

Our team will advise you on the specific documentation for your case.

Do you coordinate customs clearance in Costa Rica?

Yes. We work with allied customs brokerages to coordinate the entire clearance process at Costa Rican customs (Caldera, Limón, Juan Santamaría Airport). We offer door-to-door service so you only have to worry about receiving your goods.

What does the door-to-door service include?

Our door-to-door service covers the entire logistics chain:

  • Pickup at origin (supplier's warehouse)
  • Inland transport to the origin port/airport
  • International freight (ocean or air)
  • Customs clearance in Costa Rica
  • Local transport to the client's final address
Do you handle dangerous goods or temperature-controlled cargo?

Yes. We have experience shipping dangerous goods under IATA, IMDG and ADR regulations with strict safety protocols, and temperature-controlled cargo for perishables, pharmaceuticals or goods that require cold chain. Request a detailed quote based on your cargo characteristics.

How do I request a quote?
